Subject: | ODG: Cambridge Freshfields Annual Law Lecture 2020 on ZOOM |
Dear Colleagues:
Group members interested in a lecture to be given by Lord Sumption later this month are invited to sign up to the Cambridge Freshfields Annual Law Lecture 2020, which this year will be a Zoom event:
Lord Sumption on the topic 'Government by decree - Covid-19 and the Constitution'
online on 27 October 2020 at 6.00pm.
The disputes over Brexit last year saw an attempt to make the executive, not Parliament, the prime source of authority in the Constitution. The coronavirus crisis has provoked
another attempt to marginalise Parliament, this time with the willing acquiescence of the House of Commons. Is this to be our future?
Given the speaker, the event is likely to be a lively and stimulating affair. It will be followed by Q&A.
Attendance is free, but booking online is required.
For those unable to attend, the lecture will be put on the website shortly after the event.
Sincerely,
Jason Neyers
